NEW DELHI (AP) - Friday stadium of Mumbai, who is set to host the finals is not consistent with fire safety regulations, Director of the World Cup has dismissed a report.
Press Trust of India reported that two officials fire is visited on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium, city due to phase 2 April off the event among others games and he did not have certain security installations. PTI said fire local leader Uday Tatkare would write to the Mumbai Cricket Association on the issue.
But, Tournament Director Ratnakar Shetty, who is also the Treasurer of the MCA, told Associated Press by telephone as there are no problems with the stadium.
"Claims are false, Shetty said.At the moment I don't know what is said about safety standards and norms, but we all aspects and all standards have been met.
"Indeed Fire Department is expected to visit the Monday Wankhede Stadium and we expect." We are quite sure that once the inspection is made, we will have all necessary permissions.
Report cited PTI fire Tatkare leader said the renovated Stadium will host three games at the six-week tournament had "many shortcomings" in its commitment to fire safety.
Hydrants, weedless indicators, fire alarm and fire extinguishing all had to still be installed, Tatkare said, according to the ITP.
Other Tournament officials also underlined there there were no problems with the fire safety at the Wankhede Stadium and confirm that the inspection should be carried out next week.
The World Cup begins Saturday but first Wankhede - between the Canada and the New Zealand - game isn't until March 13.
Mumbai Cricket Association announced Thursday that the Wankhede stadium was approved by the International Cricket Council to stage World Cup games after three years of redevelopment.
